We could not have asked for a better weekend of rugby! On Saturday our first XV made the trip down to Lochaber, which is always a difficult place to go and play rugby but this time the sun was bright the rugby was fast and the stags came away with the bonus point win! I even got myself my first meat pie of the season…
This was obviously a great day for me as a player and even more as a coach, keeping the momentum going after a good win the previous week. Fingers crossed the hard work the boys and myself are putting in at training can continue over the season.
The highlight of the weekend though and possibly the rugby year so far was our Micro and Mini Rugby festival on Sunday (October 2). We could not have asked for better weather, not a cloud in the sky all day from start to finish. The rugby on show was some of the best I have ever seen for a mini festival, showing that not only Ross-Sutherland but also other clubs in the highlands are improving their game every year which is a great sight to see. All coaches, parents and volunteers were walking around with smiles from one ear to the other.
However, my personal highlight for the day was my p6-7 “Barbarians” team.
All the kids that were asked to join the team did so with no qualms or queries and got stuck into the ethos of the barbarians rugby, which is when players from different clubs and backgrounds come together as a team, demonstrating the team culture rugby has to offer.
Last but not least, a huge thank you to all the Ross-Sutherland volunteers who were involved in the organisation and running of the festival. You have set the bar high for next year.
Looking forwards to this coming week, curricular rugby will be finishing in both Alness and Tain academy. It has been great to see rugby as a “core” sport in the academies again. All current afterschool clubs will be continuing into next term and hopefully we will be able to organise lots more school fixtures for next term.
One last thing, there are still spaces available for our October skills camp for S1-3. You can find more information on this at the club, on the website, facebook and your local active schools co-ordinator!
See you on the flip side
