2003/2004 Season

In contrast after such a good season, the following campaign was disastrous in comparison. Responsibility for leading the side was vested in the hands of young Prop Hylton Smith who had a ‘baptism of fire’. Despite a couple of early friendly wins and victory in the first league game, the 1st XV went on a ‘free fall’ losing run of one win in the next 15-games to place them in the relegation places. Top try scorer was Paul Hulland (13-tries) while Colin Smith managed 110-points (7-tries, 12-conversions & 17-penalties). Andrew ‘Daisy’ Davies took over the reigns and the organising as 2nd XV skipper. He looked to bring new players to the club and enthused plenty of interest. This allied to some of the youngsters coming through the team managed to win about half of their 16-games. With Kevin Shields as main kicker there were significant contributions from Dave Robinson (5), Jamie Taylor (2), John Wilks (1) and Reuben Weavers (1).
