3 losses for our senior sides

On Saturday our 1st XI paid the price for not batting out the full 50 overs. Winning the toss the decision was made to bat on what was a very good wicket.

Danny Bridges and Aussie Sam Huitema headed out to open up. Danny unfortunately only lasted an over before he was caught behind, he was however disappointed with the umpiring decision. In came Liam Webb, he and Sam put on a solid 45 run partnership before got trapped LBW for 18 and Sam followed shortly after for a well grafted 27. At 54-3 there was work to be done however Haseem Bashir couldn't help as he was trapped LBW for 0. Steve Rigby and Dom Richardson steadied the ship before Rigby was bowled for 8 and Dom caught for 16. Elliott and Hopper both went without troubling the scorer and all of a sudden we were 83-8. Adam Perry and Kieron Holliday both looked to bat time and see how the remaining over and got us up to 109 before Kieron got caught behind and then Ryan Lethbridge got trapped LBW. 109 all out, better than last week but still at least 50 runs and 10 overs short of a competitive score on that wicket.

However, after last weeks bowling performance, there was still hope of salvaging something from the game. Hopper and Kieron opened the bowling and it didn't take long to get on the board. Hopper bowling there captain Mackereth after he hit a quickfire 20 and he then got the other opener LBW so we had Hopton Mills 30-2. However Senior and Ashton really put the brakes on slowly made there way to 104 before Hopper bowled Senior. Abbas came in and he and Ashton saw Hopton Mills over the line whilst losing just 3 wickets.

Our 2nd XI traveled to Hopton Mills in search of our 2nd win in a row. Again captain Brad Barber elected the bat first and with usual opener Chris Walker away, it gave Liam Pettit the chance to open. He and Jaymes Hollingworth both got us off to a brilliant start, putting on 149-0 for the first wicket. Pettit out LBW for 47 before Jaymes fell shortly after for a brilliant 100 off 97 balls. Joe Ellam and Ben Walsh got us over the 200 mark before Ellam got caught. In came Steve Palmer who supported Walsh who fell for 46 and then Louis Holt was bowled for 26. Only 2 balls remained as Jordan Carter came in and the innings ended on 283 for 5.

Missing last weeks star bowler Elliott as he got called up to the 1st XI, we set about defending our total at Hopton Mills very small ground. Hollingworth took the first wicket as he got opener Ali caught brilliantly by Jack Palmer at cover. Louis Holt then waded in getting captain Harrison caught and bowled with probably the worst bit of cricket throughout the day. A short wide ball hit straight back at Louis who took a sharp catch. Daz Sharp then bowled opener Moorhouse. At 90 for 3 we were looking in a strong position. Even more so after Daz got Bell trapped LBW to make it 104-4. A partnership between Faraz and young keeper Crowhurst of 38 before Ellam got the latter stumped by Carter left Hopton Mills 142-5. Pettit then took the off stumps out of the ground twice as he dismissed Mather and Scott. 185-6. Faraz was riding his luck slightly and before we knew it he was on 50. And then he quickly raced to 100 and with young opening bowler Harrison at the other end. With around 6 over left Hopton Mills needed 36 runs from 36 balls with only 2 wickets left. The rain came down heavier and the covers were put on. We re-entered the field and Brad Barber bowled Harrison. However, with 3 balls remaining Faraz won the game as he hit 144 off 100 balls. A devastating defeat for our 2nd XI but one which we still took 9 bonus points from.

Our 1st XI then lost to Windhill and Daisy Hill on Saturday with a half-strength side. We bowled them out for 171. Kieron Holliday taking 4-20. In reply, we only could manage 157 with Sam Huitema top scoring with 48. Thank you to Amirah Spice Stanley for sponsoring the match ball.
