The West Yorkshire Referees' Society runs a Young Match Officials programme for those wishing to officiate between the ages of 14 - 24. The programme offers opportunities to referee but that works alongside studying and of course playing rugby.

Ask one of your parents (If you are aged 14 - 17 years old) to email yorkie.refs@gmail.com or Telephone our Young Match Officials Co-ordinator Fran Hellawell 07521 705314 (aged 18 – 24) get in touch with Fran directly as above.

• Experience shows the majority of YMOs are players and want to carry on playing rugby. We know you are keen to assist on specific occasions, and this is great for us!
• Some will want to referee and to progress as an official. In this case we recommend that you still continue playing and being part of a team as refereeing can be isolating.
• Small number who want to train as part of the DoE award process or National Record of Achievement. We are more than happy to work with you on this, even if you decide you don‘t want to take refereeing further at this time.
