Yarnbury ladies survive a second half comeback by Skipton to end their league campaign on a huge high.
Both sides went into this game hoping to end their league campaign on a big high. Yarnbury were looking to bounce back from another big loss to Sheffield while Skipton were looking to end on back-to-back wins after thrashing York RI.
It was almost a quiet 30 minutes for both sides with neither side going near the try line. Until the first try, after some good work from Yarnbury saw a try from flanker Harriet Cochran and prop Georgia Thompson slotted in the first conversion. The last play of the half saw Skipton’s first try when hooker Amy Linnegan managed to crash through the Yarnbury defence to score and it was full back Maddison Phillips who was on kicking duties, but her first conversion was charged down by Yarnbury centre Ellie Buck. Yarnbury would lead 7-5 at halftime.
The second half was the perfect start for the women in blue when centre now full back Becky Colwell managed to breakthrough the Skipton defence to have clear space to score the try and Thompson successfully converted it. It was a tight-fisted affair afterwards, but Yarnbury would score again after an error from Skipton scrum half Stephanie Roe saw the ball go into Yarnbury hands and the ball was passed to Thompson who managed to score the try and the conversion. It was the last ten minutes of the game and Skipton got their second try when fly half Olivia Schepisi managed to find space to score but no conversion from Phillips. The comeback for Skipton was becoming reality when winger Nicola Marklew managed to show great pace to score the try and it was a vital conversion to score for Phillips, but she missed. With this win Yarnbury Ladies finish fourth in the league.
