Falgate double seals Yarnbury win
Yarnbury end their league campaign on a high with a win over rivals Baildon.
The first five minutes of the game almost had Yarnbury gain a first try after a kick from fly half Max Lee saw a fumble from Baildon full back Jake Duxbury saw a grubber kick from Yarnbury centre Joe Pearson saw a chase from him and outside centre Joshua Bateson but the ball was grounded by Baildon’s Johnathan Glendinning so it would be a 22 drop out. There would be another near chance when flanker Cam Newby made a bit of a wonky pass to Olly Parton as he took the ball in, the ball was then in the hands of Bateson who tried to pass the ball to full back Max Kennedy, but the ball went into touch. It would be third times a charm as this time Yarnbury got their first try when prop James Falgate managed to power his way through to score the try. With no Daniel Pound it was up to winger Alex Lee to get the conversions and his first one went perfectly in. The men in red however would bounce back when replacement Joseph Murphy showed great pace, he found winger Jake Strauss who managed to score the first Baildon try and it was Duxbury who slotted in the conversion and the score would stay 7-7 at halftime.

At the start of the second half a penalty was awarded to Baildon and Duxbury had a simple kick for goal right in front of the posts to put his side in the lead for the first time in this match. After a scuffle there would be yellow card for Baildon’s number eight Oliver Murphy. With a penalty awarded to Yarnbury Alex Lee went for three posts but the ball hit the posts as he failed to equalise. But the men in blue would comeback at Baildon again, another penalty was awarded to them and Yarnbury went for a tap and go. Leading the charge was Sam Yewdall who made a thunderous run, the ball was then in the hands of Falgate who managed to show his great power again to score the try and Alex Lee secured the conversion. He would later extend Yarnbury’s lead after Baildon were penalised as he struck the ball over. Yarnbury would be awarded another penalty after Baildon were penalised for not rolling away. Alex Lee went for goal and what a kick it was as the ball went over again. Baildon though were able to put Yarnbury under pressure, with the last two minutes of the game replacement William Eastells managed to score a try but Duxbury missed the conversion. Despite the pressure being built Yarnbury would kick the ball into touch to make it fulltime.
