BREAKING WITH TRADITION: A WOLVES WIN AWAY

Let the record speak - Mike Black’s Wolves set new standards. With front-row celebrations adding to the Wolves fire a win away at Carlisle is likely.

Looking forward to next week, and having mentioned the Wolves away form in previous two reports TALE OF TWO THREE CAPTAINS:KENDAL PREDICTION and A NEW SEASON - AN OLD HISTORY: PROUD TRADITIONS, it might be worth looking at our record against Carlisle. Having continued the Wilmslow pattern last week-end against Kendal (Lose one - win one) it is dangerous to look at statistics and make predictions.

The Wolves started their journeys up to Carlisle under the Captaincy of our Present President, Nigel ’Sniffer’ Day, in the 1994-1995 Season. With an almost perfect pattern, apart from Chris Jones letting the side down with two looses to his record, all previous skippers have a 50% record (same as Kendal!!! - won one - lost one). Except for one Mike Black, our present Wolves Captain, who has played four (won two - lost two), same pattern just more games.

So with the record firmly fitting a pattern; what about the away record, I know you are all anxious to disprove the theory. The Wolves have played seven away games against Carlisle with a record of played 7 - lost 6 and won one. Points for 89 - Points against 174. Comparing to the home record of played 7, won 5 and lost two (Points for 149 - Points against 115) the conclusion may appear very conclusive!!!

Our history tells us the the might Wolves do not travel away too well. That is until one more fact is revealed. Mike Black and the present squad have broken this tradition last year with a 14-13 away victory: the ONLY Wolves team ever to win away a Carlisle. So far this season Carlisle have thumped the new boys Eccles and last weekend went down to Birkenhead Park (who in turn lost their first game of the season away at Kendal 27-21). Based upon the present Wolves form, together with the resilience of the 2014-15 Wolves, another away victory to add the club records is very likely.

More Wolves news. In a season which, as predicted (SETTING NEW PERFORMANCE GOALS FOR THE SEASON), will have a number of milestones to celebrate. This week please join the club in celebrating some front-row milestones. Jordon Ayrey has passed his 50th cap for the Wolves and his partner in crime Jack Walmsley has amassed 125 games for the Wolves. Maybe in celebrating the font-row might provide a little extra oomph against Carlisle.
