Threes stay in with a chance of winning the league.

Warwick 3’s took on Worcester away this week. Going into the game we knew it was going to be tough, our biggest competition, Wolves, having beaten them by only 4 goals. Pumped with adrenaline, a tense first quarter had us neck and neck throughout, Warwick beginning to slowly inch ahead as the game progressed. We were determined to win this game to remain in with a chance of finishing top of the league.

Everyone went into the second quarter with a positive attitude. Defence were implementing skills developed at training leading to more interceptions, it was pleasing to see all the hard work paying off particularly in a game where each and every turnover could be the difference between winning and losing. Despite the accurate shooting from Worcester, our defence secured each and every rebound they did give, leading to an increase in turnovers and goals for Warwick, finishing the quarter with us just slightly ahead, the score at 17-21.

Our attack came out fighting harder than ever in the third quarter. Keeping a level head in such an intense both Lily and Aurelia were accurate and confident in their shooting maintaining their impressive stats from last week! Mid court refused to tire as the game went on, (shout-out Phoebe who played the whole match at C and was run up and down the court relentlessly, fitness goals!) everyone was continuously fighting for the win we deserved. At the end of the quarter the game was still very equal.

The 3s continued to push themselves in the final quarter and fresh legs kept energy levels high. At one point we were leading by only one goal and tensions remained incredibly high. Using the reset allowed the girls to stay calm and keep the ball in Warwick’s possession, reducing unforced errors and getting the ball safely to goal. Ultimately, a well- deserved 42-37 win keeps Warwick 3’s in with a chance of winning the league. It was amazing netball to watch and the girls should be incredibly proud.
