Warwick take on Leicester for a second time.

An important game for us, teams in our league are in close competition and we were going to Leicester knowing we had won the home game, however they were a strong team. Following a bus journey with men’s football in a tiny minibus, we arrived ready for the game. The starting 7 from the back was: Georgie, Sesh, Lucy Ritson, Erin Farwell, Grace, Ella and Lydia. With Erin Murphy’s first game for the twos!

The first quarter started with Leicester playing well and had a small lead. Again, we noticed how everyone was taller than us, we’re always the small team, mind you Erin probably brings down the average quite a bit. We fought back and got into our rhythm with defence putting every bit of effort in and attack having to work at full speed, grace with the constant drives onto the semi-circle. The quarter ended and we were within 2 at quarter time, with a score of 11-9 to Leicester. The match was tight, so we had to stick with our starting 7.

The second quarter was similar, they started with a lead gain however we got back even. Our defence putting the pressure on their feeds into the D with good discipline, and attack brought it up with Lydia putting great shots up. However, with any turnover they gained it gave them momentum. We ended the quarter 25-17.

Third quarter their star player goal shooter had to come off injured, unfortunately their replacement was just as good, classic. Once again, the game was tight, however they had worked out our game plans and double marked Lydia, leaving a lot of work to do working it round the D leading up to a feed into Ella. Both teams had great stamina and it was a hard-fought game. The quarter ended 32-25.

In the final quarter our defence of Georgie and Sesh were still working tirelessly, with any turnover being brought up well by Ritson. However, their shooter came back from off the bench and they ran away with the game in the last quarter. The final score was 51-35. A result that didn’t show the close competition between the two teams, and the work put in by both. But we won the home game, so we are still even!!

Final score: 51-35

Players player: SESHHHH!!! Special shoutout to a great game there
