History and Achievements
Wakefield Phoenix Netball Club was formed in 1991 by two sisters (Hazel Agnew and Alison Dennison) from the ashes of Dewsbury Netball Club. Both sisters have retired from the game and the club, but there are a number of players who still remain from those early days. Several have encouraged their daughters to take up the game and they now play and train for the junior club.

The Senior Club, currently chaired by Malcolm Ellis runs three teams in the West Yorkshire League, which consists of seven divisions and sixty-nine teams. The Senior Club has players ranging from 15 to mid 40's and offers a structured coaching programme to enable players of all ability to progress in the game.

The Senior club have an excellent Coach, Kylie Paynter. Kylie played at the highest standard of the game for Yorkshire Jets in the National Superleague. Kylie brings an extra level of understanding and coaching to Phoenix and we are very proud to have her!

Wakefield Phoenix NC achieved England Netball Gold CAPS (Club Action Planning Scheme) and Clubmark Award in October 2004. Every four years the club undergoes the gold re-accreditation process and has retained this award. This award outlines the club's commitment to be safe, effective and child friendly. In line with the Clubmark award, CAPS focuses on these key areas that impact on netball clubs: Duty of Care and Safeguarding Children, the Playing Programme, Club Management/Administration, Club Equity and Action Planning.

The Junior Club began in January 1997 when Louise Swainson could not find anywhere locally for her daughter to play. Training and playing opportunities in the WY Junior League are offered to those from curriculum years 3-9. In the 2010-11 season the players in years 10-11 made the successful move to train within the senior setup.
