The 2xi kick off the 2024 season at the Flacca, and host local neighbours Barrow. In last years fixture the 2s came out the better of a draw taking 12 pts, to Barrow's 3 pts. Highlights of that game were the 100* partnership between M Ross & A Walker leading to a first innings score of 197/4. Frustratingly the 2xi couldn't quite take all 10 wickets, with D Moore the pick, taking 4 out of the 8.
Looking forward to the season, the chances of a circa 200 first innings score is unlikely given the weather and ground conditions. Whilst the ground in the past week or so has looked much improved, we, along with most of the county are weeks behind on preparation but again, the same for both teams.
The 2xi remain under the stewardship of Sandland who whilst might have lost an important figure in Thilip this year, has been invigorated by the selection of Dan Moore as vice-captain this year. After a very well respected 4th placed finish last year just behind Chester Boughton Hall, captain Sandland is looking to build again and further develop the youth policy. The opposition tomorrow narrowly escaped relegation last year finishing in 10th place. Whilst the statistics would suggest a positive result for the 2xi tomorrow, the toss will be crucially important and this could be the case for the first few weeks.
