An update from the club ahead of the 2024 Season. Fixtures, Rules and everything you might need to know.

The 2024 Season is now only just around the corner and there is plenty of positive change afoot at Tattenhall this year.

Tattenhall CC have entered two junior teams into the leagues, one at U9s level and the other at U11s level, which is a great step for the club after having not had regular junior league cricket since 2017. This is a testament to the hard work started by previous chairman Jon Beddow with the launching of the All Stars & Dynamos programme, which has been followed on and improved by the current chairman Adrian Waddelove. The first junior fixtures are pencilled in for Monday 22nd for the 9s, at home to Davenham and Wednesday 24th for the 11s, away at Crewe - weather depending.

At senior level, all 3 senior captains remain at the helm for the 2024 season and Adam Butcher is stepping in to help Joe Clark with the Sunday 3XI Captaincy. Similarly to the juniors, the 3XI have been away from competitive league cricket since 2019 but now return to league cricket in Division 3 West. The Over 40s captaincy has been taken on by Tim Salt after many years of stewardship from Gary Forster; our great thanks go to Gary for his time and commitment to running the team and for starting the breeding process of the 'young' over 40's.

For those that are not aware, the Senior league season was due to start this coming Saturday (20th) with the 1XI hosting Upton CC at The Flacca and the 2XI were due to travel to close neighbours Christleton. Due to the adverse weather conditions, the Cheshire County Cricket League agreed to this gameweek being postponed and the season being pushed back 1 week, which means the original opening games will now be played on Sunday 15 September, meaning that both senior Saturday teams will finish with a 'double header'.

This season there is a marked change to the landscape of Saturday cricket, across the County League with the removal of draws and the move to Win/Lose cricket. For those that are familiar with the Birmingham Cricket League Rules, the format will follow this closely with the introduction at both 1XI and 2XI levels, all of which will be outlined in more detail ahead of play but in short, they involve;

• 50 Overs per side maximum (no additional overs from bowling opposition out)
• 10 Overs maximum per bowler
• Powerplays between specified overs
• Fielding restrictions on the leg side
• All no balls result in ‘free hits’ and 'leg side wides'
• A new point scoring system with batting points allocated on run rate

This week the league has confirmed that the 2024 Season will go ahead regardless on Saturday 27 April 2024. This means that the 'new' opening games are Christleton (A) for the 1XI and Barrow (H) for the 2XI. Naturally, the ground and weather conditions are still not as favourable as they could be but there is hope that these fixtures will be fulfilled and both teams can start the season by getting one over local neighbour’s - and by one over, we mean a win, rather than simply 'one over' before it rains again.
