SGFC win the East Division tonight with an emphatic 8-2 win over Liverton

Sean finch scores the 100th goal this season for the team and makes it four on the night

A healthy crowd of 77 attended Liverton tonight to see if visitors Stoke Gabriel could seal the league title and an immediate return to the Premier Division.
The game started with a brisk shower for the first few minutes and Stoke started as if they wanted to really get on with things and wrap up the title without worrying about the remaining trip to Exeter University.
Very early play down the left saw Josh Webber fire in a low cross that was cleared well for a corner.
There were only seven minutes on the clock when the visitors opened the scoring. Dean Stevens took control on the right for Lewis Woodmore to put in a cross. Sean Finch missed it but it fell to Ollie Critchlow who made no mistake.
Josh Webber appeared to be really up for it and continued to dominate down the left.
After just ten minutes there was a stoppage for treatment to Liverton's Ian Down who was floored by a clearing punch from his own keeper.
Liverton responded with a rare chance of their own with Neil Last being put through only for Scott Corderoy to tip his effort around the post for a corner.
Just a couple of minutes later and Stoke increased their lead. Sean Finch had an effort blocked but the ball fell to Ollie Booth 20 yards out who found the back of the net.
Ollie Critchlow was looking for his second and put a 25 yard shot just wide. The visitors then had a quick throw on the left to Ollie Booth who flicked it through to Finch who made it 3-0 with ease..
Thirty five minutes and Woodmore and Booth linked well together on the right before slipping a low ball across the box for Finch to turn and slot home from 12 yards.
There was still time at the end of the first half for Liverton to claim what seemed a consolation with the Stoke defence slipping on the ball allowing Nathan Hebbes a simple task to score.
The second half started much slower than the first and was very scrappy for a long period with only a Woodmore header to entertain the crowd.
Half way through the half and Stoke seemed to wake up and there was a glut of goals to follow. First was Josh Webber who found a loose ball at his feet and fired home for 5-1.
Then just a few minutes later a bit of humour. A defensive mix up saw Mark Ashworth head back and over an advancing Corderoy. Did the ball reach the net for an own goal or did Neil Last reach it first to save Mark Ashworth some embarrassment, the answer remains unclear so perhaps Neil Last should be given the benefit of the doubt.
Straight to the other end and Stoke restored the four goal cushion. Fraser Rudge looked sure to score but unselfishly he laid it on a plate for Finch to claim his hat trick.
Fifteen minutes left and Ryan O'Callaghan played a sublime ball through the middle for Ollie Critchlow to have the simple task of flicking in past Dom Aplin in the Liverton goal.
That was still not the end of the scoring and with just three minutes left another through ball to Critchlow was flicked onto Finch to finish things off at 8-2.
So the party began and with the Trophy picked up by skipper Ryan O'Callaghan the Champagne started to flow or should that be shower over all the celebrating players.
That makes over 100 goals scored and the top two scorers in the Golden Boot rankings, not a bad way to make an immediate return to the Premier League and many trips to Cornwall to look forward to.
