Report
St Helens Town took on Atherton LR in our first home league game of the season, Town got off to the worst start possible conceding a goal within the first three minuets. Atherton grew in confidence from there scoring a second and third goal before Town could catch a breath. Joel Douglas did get one back for Town and it looked like a good start in the second half could see us back in the game. Town started much better and chances were coming thick and fast , a definite penalty shout was not given and some fine defensive work and some great saves by the LR keeper kept Town at bay. Liam Diggle managed to rise above the Atherton defence and score a fine bullet header but the first half showing really did leave us too much to do, there were plenty of positives to take out of the game and im Sure David Platt and his team will have us ready as we face an away trip to Garstang FC on Wednesday night.
