History

Southwark Rugby is a new Rugby Union club based in the heart of London. We were founded in 2008 and played our first two seasons as part of the Kent Metropolitan Merit League. Our aim is to provide an exciting standard of rugby for all standards in Central London and bring rugby to an Inner London area which does not have a rugby playing tradition. Our first team has managed to be promoted three times in two years, no mean achievement!

In this coming season we are running three teams, we know them as the Lancers, Rebels and Tourists, one in the RFU Kent 2 league a two in the Kent Metropolitan Merit Leagues. Our ground are located in Burgess Park, Southwark (SE5) with modern changing facilities and access to a floodlit all weather training surface. The club also enjoys a healthy social side, with regular events for all tastes.

Southwark Rugby is also closely affiliated to its youth club, the Southwark Tigers, now ten years old and the first inner city rugby club in England. We aim to provide the graduates of this fantastic junior club with the opportunity to enjoy adult rugby on their doorstep. We warmly welcome rugby players of all standards to come and be a part of South Rugby’s exciting and bright future.
