Style, Control, Damage and Aggression.

In a performance that showed style, control, damage and aggression, Southgate were able bounce back from a disappointing season opener last week with a three try victory in a gruelling away game against Fullerians.

The game began (and continued to be) very stop-start as both teams struggled to impose themselves early on. Despite this, the breakthrough came eventually through scrum-half Mark Seagroatt, who's quick thinking opened up the Fullerians defence and he was able to go over under the posts to register the first score of the game. Kursar knocked the conversion over to give Southgate a deserved 7-0 lead before the half time whistle.

The second half began in a similar vein to that of the first, with plenty of set pieces given for both teams meaning that neither team were able to get into full flow. However, a yellow card the Fullerians fly-half midway through the second half for repeated late tackles resulted in the opening up of gaps in their defensive line, which Keith Karikari brilliantly exposed to continue his fine try scoring form to put Southgate in firm control of the game and meant the scoreboard reflected Southgates dominance. Kursar converted to tick the board over to 14-0 midway through the second half.

Despite being the better team for large parts of the game, Southgate struggled to take their chances, and the 14-0 scoreline should have read a great deal more before Aidan Joyce, who had a try chalked off in the first half, finished off a fine set piece to finally get his first try of the season late in the game. As Kursar once again capped off yet another fine kicking display from the tee, Southgate found themselves 21-0 up and managed to see the game through without conceding a single point to get their first win of the season.

A classy display on the pitch was matched in the post-match celebrations, as the lads headed down to the Wishing Well in Palmers Green to celebrate with a well earned charcuterie board and a couple of glasses of red wine to cap off a successful day for Southgate RFC.
