Spitfire Masters fly up to Medway for a Festival of over 35's Rugby

Festival report from Medway

On Sat 13th June, Southampton Spitfire Master's travelled up to Medway to take part in a very well organised festival of over 35's rugby league in front of BBC TV film crews, here are the highlights of our day.

Game 1 v Blackpool

Pascall Garrard was on top form in this game with three try tackle and Macca was all over the pitch involved with everything. This coupled with repeated line breaks from Jon Hadley and Pete Watson lead to the Spitfires getting on top. Despite all the Spitfires pressure the Blackpool squad managed to break free and score the only try of the game.

Game 2 v London

This game starts well with John Hadley causing problems for the London defence, however its London who score first after deciding to run on the last tackle and catch the Spitfires out leaving the scores locked at 1 all at half time. In the second half the Spitfires score first making it 2-1. London push back to try and level the scores but a try saving tackle from Full Back Pascal Garrard saves the day.

Game 3 v Leeds

The Spitfires score first through Pascall Garrard after a well worked Spitfire move. However the Spitfires edge defence gets caught out and Leeds level the scores. Leeds then score again with a minute to play leaving the scores 2 to 1 to the Yorkshire men.

Once the games were all completed, every member of every team was able to enjoy the post festival fun, with a hog roast, beers and of course Ed dressing up as a judge.

Medway did an exceptional job of hosting this event and getting 6 teams 3 from the North and 3 from the south to play in what was a very successful day.

For his efforts and and great work both on and off the pitch our very own Pascal wins Master of the Day. Two MOT trophies now for the spitfires trophy cabinet. Congratulations Pascal.
