Sileby Vikings 20 - 10 Stamford College OB

Sileby retuned to winning ways, claiming their first home win since November 2022. With a number of players returning that were absent in the first game, Sileby had a decent side to take on their opposition. A bright start from the visitors saw them pin Sileby in their own half for a good 15 minutes but Sileby’s committed defence and last ditch tackling kept Stamford College at bay, a solitary penalty was their only reward for this period of sustained pressure.

Sileby took the lead after 25 minutes with a burrowing try from veteran scrum half Michael Weston Webb which bought the score to 5-3. Despite Stamford College scoring a converted try of their own to take a 10-5 lead into half time, it was Sileby who enjoyed the majority of possession and the upper hand at the set piece. The break allowed the coaching team to make a couple of impactful changes for the second half and Sileby emerged with renewed energy and vigour.

Despite a number of try scoring opportunities being squandered by the last pass or carry, the Vikings maintained their pressure and assault on their visitors, particularly at scrum time with nearly every scrum being won or disrupted by the sizeable Vikings Pack. It was from a scrum on the Stamford college 5 meter line that Sileby drew level, with Weston-Webb going over for his second the game, 10-10.

The last 20 minutes saw Sileby pull away and secure a bonus point victory, firstly with a try from young winger Harry Greenbury in the corner. Not to be outdone, Michael Weston Webb saw enough time left to score his 3rd of the day, thus securing the try bonus point for the Vikings, the game finishing 20-10.

Sileby sit 3rd in the league at this very early stage. Next up is a trip down the M1 to Northampton BBOB RFC on Saturday 30th September.
