Welsh end season with impressive bonus point victory

Welsh finish season in excellent third position

Welsh produced another excellent performance in their last league game of the season to maintain their unbeaten home record. On a blustery day in front of a good sized crowd, a minute’s silence was held for former player and committee member John Cronin who sadly passed away recently.
With the benefit of the conditions in the first half Welsh began confidently, despite an early injury to scrum half Declan George. Adam Frost kicked well out of hand to put his team in attacking positions, with James Doran winning plenty of lineout possession and with the scrummage dominating Welsh controlled proceedings.
Fly half Adam Frost gave Welsh the lead when following a lineout he burst through the defence from short range to score a try which he converted. James McGill always looked dangerous with the ball in hand and he counter attacked well when BBOB attempted to clear their lines. He sprinted clear down the wing for his team’s second try and following good work from centres Jareth Robinson and Jack Taylor he was on hand to score another try which Frost converted midway through the half.
BBOB defended well for long stages of the half with their forwards gradually winning more possession. However in the last play of the half Matt Cockman took a quick penalty in midfield and races towards the corner and despite a good tackle was able to get the pass way to captain Jack Taylor who forced his way for the bonus point try which Frost converted.
At the start of the second half BBOB opened their account when a speculative Welsh pass in midfield was intercepted and their centre raced away for a converted try. Welsh knew they would have to defend well in the conditions and No 8 Harris was outstanding, carrying the ball well and defending well, ably supported by back row men James Hughes- Woods and Andy Higham. The front row of Parkinson, Kirby and Worrall- Soper were excellent throughout, both in the set piece and around the park. Jack Worrall – Soper trundled his way through a number of players with powerful runs and from one carry this set up the opportunity for Matt Cockman to show good strength to crash over for a try which Frost converted.
To BBOB’s credit they never let their heads drop and they showed full commitment throughout. They were rewarded for their efforts with two well taken tries, one converted, through their forwards. In between their efforts Adam Callard made an impressive run down the left wing, outsprinting the defence for a well taken try in the corner.

Off the pitch it great to see so many former players coming up to watch and also enjoying the after match festivities, the social side of the game always being so important to the club as it continues to move forward.
