Goal fest at Westminster fields as Riverside too strong for Viagra JV

The Riverside whatsapps were alive overnight with speculation on whether the warmest and wettest February since 1836 and overnight rain would mean another game would be cancelled. Ollie went down for a look and pronounced pitch 2 at Westminster Fields good to play on. The warmth contributed to very long grass on the river side of the pitch particularly, with our wingers up to their waists at times, and big clumps around the pitch giving a wicked bobble.
We struggled with injuries, with Fish in danger of putting his kit on. However this was unnecessary as debutant Sam, Danny H and myself provided cover for the starting 11. We went for the traditional 4-4-2 with some legends and future legends - Ollie, Beggsy, Mart, Els, Wintour, Tim, Tel, Tom, Kris, Jamie and Bash providing the perfect blend of youth and experience. The travelling fan contingent was Steveless today, with Neil B providing the encouragement (and the team bus) from the side.
Viagra have troubled us in the past, winning 3-1 in October, so we were expecting a tough game. We started really well, with Graham Begg setting the tone with a classic 10 yard slide tackle in the corner taking advantage of the skiddy surface to get a bit of sledging in. Martin and Elliot behind Tom and Tel gave us a very strong platform to play off. Tim was full of confidence, winning tackles and covering a lot of ground. He enabled our first goal with a tremendous recovery to keep the ball in and play it to Jamie who set up Bash for a simple tap in. He then doubled our advantage, starting another move and receiving the ball back from Tom C and an instant finish from the edge of the box into the corner. We got a third as Jamie took a curling corner that the keeper turned into his own net and a fourth by Jamie as he sprinted clear from a Kris through ball.
We started the second half with a bit of a wake up call as our old foe Enni pulled one back. We reacted well with Bash getting a 5th from a fine back post header. Bash scored an even better header off a Jamie cross, connecting perfectly to fire the ball into the top right corner Ruud Guillt style. Kris scored our 7th with a stunning volled finish at the back post, we see him try these many times on a Thursday night but he caught it perfectly. Our eighth was a penalty taken by Elliot, after Matt W was sliced down with only the keeper to beat. Viagra scored a couple of goals in among ours and did well to keep their heads up, and played in good spirits despite the beating they were taking.
