A news update on the goings on at the club

It has been a lean time for news concerning the clubs activities on this particular website since after the demise of County football this website went into retirement. However the Clubhouse has remained open albeit with a somewhat reduced opening hours. There has been football at the club as our friends AFC Ringmer have been playing their matches here when they can.

The RFC committee have concentrated their efforts on the big move which actually started in earnest a few months ago when the contractors moved on to the Ringmer Academy playing fields and started work laying out the new ground. Today, despite the winter weather the new main clubhouse build is well on it's way, It has been a long time in the planning but it is happening folks!

With the Caburn pitch nearing the end of it's last season and with no further use it is time to call a date for the actual closure of the Old Clubhouse and ground so work can start on developing the ground for housing. A preliminary date of the 31st March 2020 has been set but this may change for certain circumstances. At the moment the main activity at the club is the big sort out of clutter collected over the years, we even found an old chairman from the 70's in the back of one of the store cupboards :-)

I went to the club today and sat looking across the pitch as I have done many times over the years, it was sunny and very calm & peaceful as there was no one else about, I used to sit here a lot when it was like this once the afternoons football had finished or like now when nobody was about a soak up the serenity of the ground. Today work has already started with the destruction of this field and it's footballing echoes, the outer fencing has gone along with the ever controversial trees have been pulled up and made into a huge pile of chippings. Instead of trees a row of houses that have not been seen so clearly for years somewhat spoils the view once more.

I for one will miss this place for sure but if the RFC was to survive there was no other viable option other than to sell up and to move. A new chapter in the history of the club will start around August time when hopefully the first match will start on the new 3G pitch at the new ground.

TAKE NOTE
There is proposed a DRINK THE BAR DRY DAY a kind of celebration or is it an honour to the clubhouse? A date has yet to be decided on this so keep an eye out and your ear to the ground if you want to join in.

If anybody is interested there are six floodlight stations at the club going begging, they still all work I am told. For more info or if interested give the club secretary a call on 07842169264.

Any other news updates will be posted here
