A second-half comeback from Chadderton saw REMY fall to a 4-3 defeat in a dramatic game at Litherland Sports Park.

REMY led 2-0 at half-time but a quick fire double from Ethan Sutcliffe got the visitors back in the game before Luke Denson’s own goal was followed by a strike from Adam Dale to turn the game on its head.

Nathan Corness dispatched a late penalty to threaten a dramatic end but Chadderton defended well to see out the result and make it four consecutive wins.

REMY got off to a dream start as Elliot Taylor worked the ball well down the right hand side before cutting it back to Will Dunne, who steered the ball into the side netting to claim an early lead.

Colin McDonald’s side were firmly on top as Bobby Grant got in behind on several occasions, before Elliot Taylor gave REMY a deserved second goal at the half hour mark.

Exchanging passes on the half way line following a quick counter-attack, Grant played Oli Nugent through down the left allowing the midfielder to put the ball on a plate for Taylor who lapped up the chance to grab his seventh goal of the season.

The referee almost gave Chadderton a reprieve on the stroke of half time as he blew for a contentious penalty for handball on the line, but after consulting the assistant referee he reversed the decision as REMY took their two-goal lead into the break.

Taylor then had a golden chance to notch his second of the afternoon just a minute after the restart as he dispossessed Jack Worrall on the edge of the box, but after driving towards goal he sliced his effort wide of the post.

Chadderton took full advantage of REMY’s missed opportunities and grabbed their first goal back through Ethan Sutcliffe, who did well to get in behind Jack Richards before riding a challenge from Luke Denson and cutting inside to knock the ball around Jack Reynolds.

It was a double blow for REMY as Sutcliffe then met Robert Flynn’s corner at the near post and buried his header in the far corner, levelling the game.

Chadderton’s luck was in and having battled well to get back in the game they took the lead after 65 minutes in fortuitous fashion.

Krisel Prifti got in down the left and looked to play the ball across goal, only for Denson’s attempted block to deflect it past Reynolds who had no chance.

Dale then completed the turnaround three minutes later as another dangerous delivery from Flynn saw the ball land at his feet, with the striker making no mistake as he smashed the ball into the back of the net.

REMY refused to abandon hope and there looked to be a chance of a dramatic finish when the referee blew for a penalty in injury time after Grant was brought down by goalkeeper Morgan Bacon in the box.

Substitute Nathan Corness stepped up and squeezed the ball in the bottom left despite Bacon getting a hand to it, but it wasn’t enough as Chadderton defended well to see the game out as it finished 4-3.
