About us!

Redcar Hockey Club is a mixed club. We currently have 2 men’s teams and 1 junior under 13 team playing in the North East Hockey League. Our ladies team is new this year and plays in the Durham League.
The men’s and ladies teams play their league matches on a Saturday. The junior league consists of a Sunday round robin tournament between 4 clubs, which takes place once a month.
We are based at Rye Hills School in Redcar, and play and train on the Astroturf pitch there.

Training
We have 2 hour long training sessions at Rye Hills School.
We have many hockey sticks available and can supply those for practice and games. Personal equipment that is recommended is astroturf trainers, as the surface can be quite slippy if you don’t have the right trainer. Shin guards should be worn during hockey, as the ball is hard and we would always recommend having a mouth guard. The cost of training sessions for Juniors is £1, and is £3 for matches/tournaments. If you wish to join the club and benefit from club insurances, there is an annual Junior membership fee of £15.00, normally paid after the 1st month of the season.

Junior training session
This is on a Monday during school term time and starts at 5.00pm. This is only for junior players and is a good environment to start to learn the game. We do have a growing junior section and are always looking to welcome new players.

Main training session
This is on a Tuesday throughout the year and starts at 6.45pm. This is open to any age and is normally split between the men, and then the ladies and any juniors that turn up. This is good once the basic skills have been learnt, because we go more into the tactics of playing (and hopefully winning) matches.

Hockey is a great sport, quick moving, high skills, and fun to play. The club is based around getting people participating, having fun playing, training and socialising. This seems to be working, as we win more matches that we lose!

We hope this page answers a few questions and we look forward to seeing you at one of our sessions.
