League leaders toppled

The league leaders visit to Southfield was accompanied by a strong wind which did its best to spoil a good game of football. Defending the wind the early exchanges saw the Calne forwards put pressure on the home defence and they could have taken an early lead but top scorer, Stuart Windsor shot straight at Jack Scrivens.
Once the 'miners' settled they forced the visitors onto the back foot and the opening goal came in the fifteenth minute when James Rustell got in front of his marker to head home a Jack Biddescombe corner at the front post. That goal stung the visitors and they mounted a series of attacking moves that needed all of the Radstock back four's experience and strength to keep the chances to long range efforts. Ten minutes before half time Scrivens in the home goal had to be at his best to turn away a goal bound effort from Jamal Chevelleau and he was called into action again a few minutes later when he got down at his near post to keep out a Sol Pryce effort.
The second period started with the home side looking to find space down the flanks and crosses from both Rico Sobers and Jack Biddescombe caused problems for the visiting defenders and efforts from Morgan Marsh and James Rustell were dealt with by Sam Thomson in the visiting goal.
The miners doubled their lead in the seventieth minute when Jack Biddescombe picked up the ball just inside the Calne half and his defence splitting pass was run onto by Morgan Marsh who skilfully steered the ball past the exposed Thomson much to the delight of the home supporters.
Despite the swirling wind both sides tried to get the ball down and play on the ground which saw chances being created at either end and both keepers were called into action but despite all their best efforts neither side could find a way through and it was the Radstock boys who gratefully took the points to close the gap on the sides above them.
