Recent passing of local club man.

Under Dave Bullas at A.S.C.Dayncourt, his lad Tom, got to hear about a team starting up at U10s in Radcliffe, in 1987, through Tom's cousin, Steve Butterworth.

As with almost all parents at that time, Glyn went to all of the matches that season, even though there were about eighteen kids all wanting a game. At the end of the season, Dave held a meeting at the Black Lion, and wanted some parents to look after half of the lads for the following season. Mick Aspley and Dave Lamb offered to get them a few games and Glyn was there to offer his help and knowledge. He did lots more than that, insisting and providing a kit for both teams, and helping with training and organization, and indeed, transport to games. He ran the line on many occasion, but preferred to be on the opposite side of the pitch to his mum, the formidable Grandma Godfrey. She would shout at the ref, the linesmen and the opposition, and was never backward at coming forward. Who can forget, the many times when the ball was rolling out for a throw, where she would walk on to the pitch, pick the ball up throw it to Tom shouting 'here you go Thomas, upfield with it'. Glyn always smiled at that.

He came along to the first Holland trip, where he made us all a bright yellow tee shirt and baseball cap with the A.S.C. badge on, safe to say, non of us got lost. It was a grand sight on a sunny day, with us all riding hired bikes on the Island of Texel on the way to a few games. His sporting brain came to the fore in the evening quiz, helping him avoid the unpleasant 'forfeit shots', but went missing when it was a desirable 'shot'. At the end of the trips, he was always first in line for a shirt for the 'hosts v visitors' match.

For many years, Glyn provided the home and away kits for all of the A.S.C. teams, and much more besides. He was a major part of Dayncourt, and those who knew him, will remember him with great fondness.
