History


Queensbury Celtic was formed in 1978 by
ex-amateur footballer Arthur Peel and
George Hunt - both local men. Arthur was
approached by a teacher from the former
Catherine Slack Junior School to coach
and train their keen junior football players.
After that first season they were joined by
Brendan Lunn and together they formed
Q.C.F.C
The club proved to be very popular and
successful. A few years later land became
available in Queensbury and because of
the continued growth and success of the
club, the committee of the time decided to
take the plunge and purchase what is now
their current home.
The land, at the junction of Pit Lane and
the Brighouse & Denholme Road was
transformed to accommodate three
pitches, a clubhouse and car parking
facilities.
After great physical and fundraising effort
by committee members and parents the
ground was ready for the first matches to
be played in the 1990 season. The existing
clubhouse and changing facilities were
completed through the course of that first
season.
At 1100 feet above sea level, Queensbury
Celtic is one of the highest football
grounds in England with a climate not
considered conducive to junior football...
