This season has seen a step up in the level of rugby that we have been playing, the opposition have been unable to live with the pace and precision of our game. Next season we will need to improve further and are likely to require a larger playing squad to continue our success.
It is therefore essential that we regularly field a development team that comprises of the best of the Lions youngsters, a few old heads and members of the 1xv squad not selected for league matches. We need to ensure that the development team plays as many games as possible in the second half of this season in order to set a solid foundation for 2104-15, when we intend to enter the development team in the same merit league as this season, ensuing hard and competitive games for all.
We feel it necessary to re-iterate the Club’s selection policy to all club members;-
1. Players not training without a valid reason will not be selected for the first team.
2. Players not selected for the 1xv match day squad will be expected to play in the development side.
3. Players returning from injury will be expected to gain match fitness through the development team prior to being available for selection for the 1xv.
In exceptional circumstances the head coach may in conjunction with the selection committee waive rules 1 & 3.
This policy has the full backing of all coaches and committee.
We are keen to continue the success of the last few seasons and feel that a successful Development side is essential to the continued success of the club.
