Pirates Colts vs Newquay Colts

The Pirates were fortunate to have another large squad of players at their disposal this week. Even after a couple of late drop outs due to injury, there were still a total of 28 players available. Whilst in the main this is an incredibly positive attribute to have as a team, it does make for some difficult decision making for coaches in terms of who and how and when to get players interchanged. Especially when there are 6 or 7 players for 2 positions!!

It was also helpful to have a large squad because as it was, Newquay could only muster 12 players on the day. Huge thanks and admiration are expressed to them for still making the effort to travel down to Penzance. The same sentiments are also expressed to the Pirates players who volunteered to go over and make up the Newquay numbers in each half.

The game kicked off a little later than planned to accommodate Newquays late arrival but it was the away side that made most of the early inroads. Indeed, the Pirates were somewhat off the pace and seemed to make far too many basic errors to trouble a Newquay team who were far more 'up for it' on the day.

A couple of changes late in the game afforded the Pirates a rare chance to attack deep in to Newquays half and eventually the pressure told and the match winning try was scored.

A bit of a relief at the end of the day for the home side, they will now hopefully realise that they will need to play much better than this in the future if they are to keep up the winning run.
