Ladies get another three points!

Last week saw Penistone ladies travel to Winn Gardens to face Sheffield Six's; they were the only team that Penistone hadn't played in the league to date. Six's had previously played six, won three and lost three. Church were keen to continue on their unbeaten run in the league.

After a 2 minutes silence for Armistice day the game began with Penistone immediately piling on the pressure. A string of early chances saw STANCILL, BRADLEY and ARIF going close and on 11 minutes a superb corner found DARBY who headed and hit the post, the ball rebounded for LEDGER to put in a lovely cross which reached LONGSTONE who just couldn't get enough power to convert, the ball falling safely into the keepers hands.

The game continued with Penistone on the front foot and on 17 minutes perseverance paid off as BRADLEY ran through on goal and scored her first of the game 0-1. Church almost made it two on 19 minutes when a ball headed through from LONGSTONE found ARIF who dribbled through the sixes defence and crossed it into BRADLEY who was unlucky to see her shot go just to the right of the goal.

With BINEY and STANCILL linking up well a lot of the play was being worked down the right hand side of the field. Six's picked up on this and started to defend well. They were rewarded for their efforts on 20 minutes with their first chance of the game, a lovely looping free kick looking dangerous was well defended by BINEY. Then BINEY knocked it towards GREEN, who worked hard and produced a lovely run and consequent pass through to ARIF. Unfortunately ARIF was just caught offside.

Six's had a further chance on 29 minutes. A good run through the middle and a decent shot well collected by STEPHENS. Six's were starting to build up momentum but Church responded in kind, with chances on 31 minutes, 33 minutes and 34 minutes for STANCILL and ARIF. It was ARIF on 34 who made it 0-2 a superb shot just beyond the the reach of the Six's goalie.

BRADLEY had two more chances on the stroke of half time, the keeper rushing out and BRADLEY taking it round her, the ensuing shot just wide of the post. The second the keeper just managed to grasp after a lovely STANCILL cross found her free in the box. ARIF had one final shot just over the bar, from lovely through play from JONES just before half time.

HALF TIME; Sheffield Six's 0-2 Penistone Church.

The second half began with Penistone enjoying the lions share of the posession, an early BINEY corner finding ARIF and another 1 on 1 unlucky to just go past the post from BRADLEY. It was on 52 minutes that BRADLEY, got her second of the game when a cross come shot soared into the top corner, the keeper managing to get her fingers to but not able to avert 0-3.

On 54 minutes BEAVER led a fantastic run down the left wing crossed into BRADLEY who graciously left it for LONGSTONE to slot home for 0-4. Penistone started to dominate by having a string of chances and hitting the post for the second time in the game. The ball rebounded back for BRADLEY to pass through to MILLAR who slotted the ball neatly in for 0-5. Moments later BRADLEY finished off her hatrick for 0-6.

Six's had a couple more chances at this point with the defensive team of TALBOT, CREHAN, LEDGER, FIDLER and PERRY equal to it, FIDLER collecting the ball and dribbling past a couple of players to knock through to MILLAR who shoots nicely for her second of the game 0-7. MILLAR was unlucky to not get a hat-rick of her own on 76 minutes, when a STANCILL cross found her on the edge of the box, the ensuing shot hitting the cross bar.

Final score; Sheffield Sixes 0-7 Penistone Church.

Today the girls built on their momentum and worked hard to gain a fantastic result. They worked as a team and displayed some fantastic football and passages of play. Fantastic result well done!

Today's player of the match was KIRSTY BRADLEY
