The season so far

It's been an interesting start to 2017 for the Raiders with some more new and old faces joining the playing squad.

The season started back in January with a defeat in the National Cup to a strong Siddal side where the Raiders dug in and earned some pride. The league then opened with a narrow 26-24 defeat to the undefeated Lambworth Lions, a frustrating game where the boys just ran out of time chasing a 26-6 half time deficit.

Our first victory of the season was against a resilient Sheffield Hilsborough Hawks side away from home which was quickly followed by a home win in a tight game against Wibsey, seeing the Raiders win 18-6 then a comprehensive 46-12 win at home against Whinmoor Warriors. At this point the team was shaping up really well with a strong middle unit and in form halves and hooker taking the team around the field well, evidenced by some of the team tries scored.

The boys were in a buoyant mood ahead of the Continuation Cup tie against Division 2's Lindley Swifts, and were unlucky to only be drawing 12-12 at half time. Lindley managed to kick on in the second half however where and managed to take the wind out of Oulton's sail, finishing as 30-12 winners.

As we have started to get some lighter nights and dryer pitches the team are looking to pick up where they left off in the league and keep progressing. Whilst the entire team has impressed at points there are some of the boys deserving of a mention at this stage with Kane Neal and Jake Woods forming a dangerous attacking and formidable defensive duo out wide, Bailey Inhester, Leon Rymer and Ewan Taylor have really got us around the field and started to take the line on well, whilst Callum Asquith and Joel Edminston have been huge in defence, Joel along with Ben Beaumont and Kian Dickinson doing to tough work with ball in hand.

This weekend see's the under 16's at home against Hull Wyke, with a new kit and an old face in Jake Creswell, they look in great shape and ready to impress.

We are still interested in increasing numbers therefore as always - please feel free to come and watch the boys in action and take part in training if you are wanting to start / resume playing.
