Saturday 14th September was one of the biggest in Old Georgian’s young history as a club, which saw it put out two teams for the first time. OG’s XV played local rivals Weybridge Vandals, and the OG 2nd XV played a Farnham 2nd XV.
Old Georgians XV started the game very strongly, with great pressure and strong defensive line. Weybridge Vandals struggled to break the line and were camped in their own half for the majority of the first 10 minutes. A strong Old Georgian scrum just inside the Vandals half, gave the back line a good base to score of first phase ball, with Frano Annandale scoring Old Georgians first try of the 2019/20 league campaign. This was converted by Jack Cooney to make the score 7-0.
Old Georgians did not take the pressure off and soon after were able to add 3 points through a Jack Cooney penalty.
Old Georgians were able to sustain pressure, which resulted in a second try for the home team scored by Shiv Patel. The conversion was unsuccessful and left Old Georgians 15-0 up at half time.
Old Georgians started the second half where they had finished the first, quickly adding another try to the tally, with Will Arkell rampaging his way through the Vandals number 10 to score under the posts. The try was converted making the score 20-0.
The tries continued to come thick and fast, with Harry Samuels, Mike Tierney (scoring two tries) and Will Stride all adding to the Old Georgian tally, finishing 46-7 to Old Georgians. It was a great start to the season, one that Old Georgians needed in their fight for promotion.
