The first league game of the season for Newquay against Yeovil; it was a wet one. Newquay knew this was going to be a tough game as Yeovil had been relegated after playing 3 years in the league above.

Newquay were up for the challenge and with a positive and motivating team talk at the beginning of the game couldn't wait for the hockey season to begin. Yeovil came out with a point to prove and hit Newquay hard attacking for the first 20 minutes. Newquay took a very defensive stance and managed to stop Yeovil from capitalising with some fantastic saves from Holly Freer and solid defending. Yeovil eventually squeezed one in before half time taking a 1-0 lead into half time.

In the second half Newquay retaliated, creating plenty of space across the pitch for the home team to take more of an attacking position. With patience and determination Newquay scored off a short corner; great positioning from Danielle Fry led to her scoring the equaliser for Newquay.

Yeovil's response was very physical and after a stick to a Newquay player's head, some questionable tackles and heated comments from Yeovil, one of their players received a green card. Newquay remained calm and with a fantastic performance came out with a 1-1 draw.

Pheobe Williams was our women of the match for great defensive tackles, outlet passes and all-round brilliant game.
