1st Team Manager, Jonny Ginnelly's Assessment of the Weekend's Wins

"After a good win in our first game back last weekend against Glasshoughton Rock, we knew we were in for a tough test hosting Semi Professional outfit Worsbrough Bridge who ply their trade in the NCEL, a level above us in the Football Pyramid.

On a warm summers day behind closed doors at Beck Lane, on a beautiful playing surface, the game started at 1.30pm.

We withstood some early pressure, with the intensity for a friendly game extremely high. Perfect to test our fitness, with only taking 3 substitutes due to a few absentees it was set to be a real work out on the legs for our lads.

The game was evenly contested for around 25 minutes before a goal kick from Alex Forsythe was flicked on by Captain Nathan McDaid, with Adam Williams picking up on he second ball and sliding a pass through for Scott Lightowler who provided a deadly finish to make it 1-0.

We built on the goal and added more pressure when a similar situation from a goal kick lead to another flick on, for this time Adam Williams to beat the Worsbrough defence and make the score 2-0 to Littletown with a Tidy left footed shot into the top corner from inside the box. Still well contested from both sides, it was Littletown who were the more clinical infront of goal with Worsbrough squandering several chances, and Alex Forsythe making some excellent saves.

5 minutes before the break, from a free kick launched high into the Littletown area, the Worsbrough Striker contested with the Littletown goalkeeper and knocked the ball in the goal from a spill down to make the scoreline 2-1 at the break. First half being evenly shared, to say the game was being played in 25 Degree heat the pace, intensity and quality was impressive from both sides.

The second half started and Worsbrough applied initial pressure before Littletown once again had a strong 20 minutes on the ball, attacking well and creating opportunities. A loose ball in-between the Worsbrough defence and goalkeeper was latched onto by In-Form striker Scott Lightowler who was brought down by the goalkeeper, as the referee rightfully pointed to the spot. MOM Lightowler stepped up and calmly converted the penalty to make the score 3-1 Littletown with around 20 minutes to play.

Worsbrough penned us in to our own half for the last 15 minutes of the game, with some resolute defending and good organisation keeping them at bay. A penalty was given for Worsbrough with around 5 minutes to play after a foul on the lively number 10 who caused problems all day with the ball at his feet. He scored the penalty to make it 3-2 but Littletown managed to see the game out, for a well deserved and really positive win to make it 2 out of 2 this Pre-Season!

Littletown Second Team hosted Morley Town First team at 3.30pm, this was set to be a massive test for our troops playing against a Morley team 4 Divisions above them in the Yorkshire Amateur League. With a strong squad on display, the game started with Littletown on the front foot with James Blane slotting the ball through the goalkeepers legs from a Jordan Woffinden pass. The game continued in the same vain, with James Blane on the score-sheet again. He was joined with goals from Matthew Bolton, Sam Womersley, and a Lewis Boddy brace finishing the scoring with a right foot strike from a tight angle. Fantastic performance from the 18 men selected, with notable impact from the bench and the sort of effort and togetherness which if it remains will lead to silverware this season that's for sure.

Two great results for the lads this weekend, on to next Saturday with 2 more games as we continue our preparation for the upcoming season."
