Stirling County 7 Lasswade 35
Having had a bye in the first round of the National League Cup followed by Orkney’s withdrawal before contesting Round 2, Lasswade entered the competition at the quarter-final stage having drawn Stirling County away.
With a Stag Party away to Aintree involving a few regulars, selection had to go a bit deeper but all current or recent veterans and no debutants. Apart from this handicap and no home advantage, Lasswade remained favourites having won the home and away legs in the League and finishing second to County’s sixth.
Although the drive to Stirling involved high winds and lashing rain, almost the entire game was played in bright sunshine and a moderate breeze.
The game followed the form book when tries by Robertson, Dave Hall and Grant innes with a conversion in the first 20 minutes were followed by two unconverted from Wilson before the break.
Clarke touched down the sixth try early in the second half stretching the gap to 0-32.
Stirling didn’t give up and earned a consolation converted try with ten minutes to go, but a penalty for the visitors rounded off the 7-35 final score.
Lasswade are at home for the semi-final this Saturday taking on Allan Glen’s who came second in National League Division 3. Kick-off 3pm
