Two Late Goals Finish Off Moorsiders

The Moorsiders faced Championship hopefuls Pocklington Town 2nds at home today, hoping to improve on the 5-1 defeat suffered in the reverse fixture earlier in the season. The game started fairly evenly with much of the play in the centre of the pitch but on 18 minutes the visitors took the lead. The ball was passed out wide to Jack Overton on the Moorsiders' right wing, who drove into the 18 yard box only to be brought down by Andy Sharman. Pocklington were awarded a penalty which James Drewery confidently dispatched past keeper Adam Magson. The remainder of the first half saw Kirkby struggling to get a hold of the game and had it not been for a number of outstanding saves from Magson, the score at half time could easily have been four or five nil. The second half started with the Moorsiders on the front foot, moving the ball around like they are capable of but without an end result. The game was now a much more even affair with Kirkby looking the more likely to score. The chance to equalise came in the 82nd minute as a ball into the visitors' box by Bradley Magson was adjudged to have been handled by a defender, earning a penalty for the home side. However after some uncertainty as to who would take it, Sarjo Cham stepped forward, only to blaze it over the crossbar. With the chance gone, Pocklington drove forward from the restart and Andy Anderson hit a shot from the edge of the area across Magson into the net to double the visitors' lead. In the last minute of the game, Tom Reay picked up a loose ball on the edge of the Kirkby area and drove on, shrugging off a couple of challenges before blasting the ball past the helpless Magson to complete the scoring. Following the game, Adam Magson was named Man of the Match for an outstanding display in the Kirkby goal.
