Bedford Tigers (home game)

The Kings Lynn Black Knights Rugby League team hosted Bedford Tigers in the first round of the East Cup. They sported their new kit which has been kindly sponsored by Allied Surveyors & Valuers and Stephen Newman Builders and Landscapers.

both teams fielded vastly different sides from last week. It was end to end stuff in the first half hour with neither team gaining an advantage util on the half hour Jaryd Bennett took advantage of some space and managed to drop a goal. Then on the stroke of half time, after both teams had laid on the pressure and Bennett took advantage of some poor defending and ran in under the posts, converting the try himself. Giving the Knights a 7-0 half time lead.
At the start of the second half , Bedford themselves took advantage of some bad tackling from the Knights and ran in under the posts and converting. again it was end to end stuff, and the Knights scored again with some great passing and Paul Allen off loading to Matt Trede who romped from 50 yards to score under the posts, again converted by Bennett. Bedford hit back with a controversial try, kicking on the 5th tackle the ball bounced on the line and back into play, the Knights left it assuming it the ball was out of play, but playing to the whistle, Bedford's winger picked the ball up and touched down in the corner, the referee giving the try. More pressure from Bedford on The Black Knights line saw them push over for another try, converted. With the score at 13-16 to Bedford, more pressure from Bedford and some good passing saw the go out wide on their right hand side and dive in right in the corner seemingly taking out the corner post at the same time, again the referee giving the try. More end to end stuff, and with 5 minutes to go The Black Knights piled on the pressure and a great break from Bennett split the Bedford defence and a well timed pass sent Paul Allen in to the right of the posts, Bennett missing the Kick. Kings Lynn piled on the pressure again but couldn't find the line again. Bedford took revenge from last week winning an end to end battle from both teams 17-20.
Man of the match for the Black Knights was Neil Thurston, penalties 3-11 , tries 3 for 4 against, 2 goals each and a drop goal for.
