The Stallions progress in the cup in a well contested derby game against the Mustangs.

On a cold Autumn Sunday morning the Stallions won 5-1 against the Mustangs although the score flattered the home team and dare I say it, our friends who we share the club house, have every reason to be proud of their performance.

Dave & Mark’s starting eleven were Max in goal with Jay, Cam, Luke and Dan at the back; Will, Sam, Dylan S and Alfie played across the middle leaving little and large, JR and Leo up front. K, Ed, Dylan P and Jed were on the bench.

The game got off to a frenetic start in front of a sell-out crowd with both sides pushing forwards as soon as they got the ball. The coaches paced their technical areas, glaring at each other and bellowing out instructions to their team like it was competition. The deadlock was broken after ten minutes when Dylan S sunk a goal from close range from a Sam well delivered corner. Leo almost doubled the score moments later but was denied from the keeper, that got away – Jack Woodison, who blocked the shot very bravely at mid height. Minutes later Max made a similar fully committed save at the other end to keep the score close and the spectators on their feet – as they would remain for the rest of the game!
The game continued at pace before Will put some distance between the two teams with a well taken strike just within the box having been put through by Jed.
HT 2-0

Alfie, Sam, Jack and Dylan S were on the bench for the start of the second half that resumed as the first finished.

Five minutes in and Jack saved magnificently from Dylan P which would have killed the game. But this save gave the visitors hope and they were shortly afterwards awarded a penalty as Max brought down Jack Roper on the corner of the box, who went on to take an unstoppable penalty into the top right-hand corner of the net. 2-1 game on and the Stallions were on the ropes for the first time in the game as the Mustangs pressed forward for an equaliser. For 10 minutes the Mustangs were on the ascendency and the Stallions at sixes and sevens. An equaliser almost came half way through the half as Jack Pickles short range shot hit the inside of the post.

With coach Dave going ballistic the Stallions pressed forwards and Kiernan tried his luck from long range only to see the keeper parry it away for a corner. This was quickly taken by Jed who was looking for the head of Leo but instead found the force of Kiernan who charged forwards heading the ball into the top of the net and almost ended up there himself.

With the two-goal advantage reinstated the Mustangs heads dropped and two late goals from Alfie (close range shot from JR cross) and JR (looping long range shot) gave the Stallions a score line that flattered their performance.

All the team had a solid, if not an exceptional performance, that sees them into the 3rd round of the cup and still on the road to Elland Road.
