Vote now (Bottom Left of the page!) for Holme's Greatest Ever Player...

In the bottom left of your screen you will see a poll where you can vote for the greatest ever Holme Cricketer. I have had many a discussion on the subject, since the age of 3....with my dad, and he has helped contribute to the list. Somehow I didn't manage to sneak in there and I'll have issues telling Strongy he didn't make the cut but here's some classic history on each player...

Martin Stafford - Captain and Classical batsman throughout the 1970's and early 1980's. Once put Les Tyson up against a wall....alwways worth a vote

Mick Fawcett - Obviously we know who Mick is but he's been playing for Holme since 1892 and has taken millions of wickets. Part of the great bowling attack of the late 60's and early 70's when Holme was the best team in the land / westmorland league

David Hayton - Arguably once the quickest bowler in the Westmorland League (my father-in-law disputes this but says he was sharp) and bowled the opposite end to Mick Fawcett

Cedric Martin - Off spinner who played northern league cricket for Netherfield. First change to Hayton and Fawcett that again formed the best bowling attack in....the North West?!?

Kevin Barnes - Has the highest number of centuries for any batsman in Holme's history and is also referred to as 'Golden-arm' for his ability to take wickets.

Graham Barnes - Another player who stepped up to the Northern League, not before showing the Westmorland League his severe talent with the ball. Also took 90 wickets at an average of under 7.

W.A.S Hall - the original Village cricketer who has even risen to the heights of having a bench named after him. Must be good! Batsman who also took many wickets and became our club president for many years.

Tommy Hall - Brother of the above and towering fast bowler who not only represented Lancaster CC but played against the Australian touring side in 1950...something!

Dane Swart - 4 Centuries already on the honours board and if it wasn't for knee issues he'd have similar rewards for his bowling. The fact he can keep wicket to a high standard is why his name is also on the list.

If you can think of anyone I should have included let me know and I'll discuss and potentially add them in. I stopped at about 1930 because Holme seemed to get bowled out for about 50 every week...

Cheers and happy voting!
