Club stalwart, Jim Dearden, celebrated his 99th birthday last Wednesday (February 28th) in a local hostelry surrounded by family and friends. He was his usual sagacious self, suggesting that he wasn’t quite sure what the fuss was all about. As he sat in an armchair with a couple of helium balloons behind him that showed his age and it was pointed out that three balloons would be needed next year, his response was that “it would only be just another birthday”. Well, here’s hoping those balloons will be required. Happy birthday, Jim!
