Junior History

Hall Green United Juniors was formed in 1984 when a few youths from the village approached a senior member of the community to organise football matches for them. We initially obtained support from Crigglestone Middle School, whose headmaster, one Mr Jordan, allowed us to use the school fields. Hall Green Utd JFL began their first competitive campaign in the 1984/85 season when they were accepted into the Huddersfield & District RCD Junior Football League.
In 1993, as we were preparing for our 10th anniversary we had discovered that the Education Department had declared the school fields that the club was using surplus to requirements. The school was sold and demolished, with housing to be developed on the old school ground and fields. The Junior Committee spearheaded a campaign to save the fields by enlisting the help of the Sports Council, National Playing Fields Association, The FA, The Parish Council, Local Ward Members and the local community.
The campaign proved successful, even though the school was closed down, along with the changing rooms and gym the club used as part of it's facilities. The committee continued with long and extensive consultations with Wakefield MBC. The end result being that while the land was sold for building, the building contractors were obliged to create two new playing fields, a fenced hard surfaced floodlit training area, changing rooms and a car park.
The site was handed over to the Junior Committee in August 1997, given the name Castle Meadows and officially became the home of Hall Green Utd.

The Juniors have always competed in the Huddersfield RCD Junior Football League, which is recognised as one of the most competitive Junior League's in North of England.

The Juniors are also a recognised Charter Standard Football Club.
