Hadley Wood and Wingate suffered their third 3-0 loss since the start of March at home to Risborough Rangers.

It was a repeat of the scoreline that the Blues have fallen to against both Codicote and Ampthill Town this month, part of a run of five games that have produced one win.

Two second half goals from Gary Rymer and a third from David Newton were enough to see off a stifled Hadley Wood and Wingate.

The result means last week’s 2-1 loss to Wodson Park proves to be the Blues’ only March game in which both teams have scored.

Kevin Mealor stung Ross Weinrabe’s palms from close range within the opening two minutes, but the first half saw a number of ‘nearly’ chances.

Two separate crosses narrowly evaded a total of seven Risborough players, a touch from any of which would have sent the ball in.

Jake Casey saw a shot inside the box deflect wide off team-mate Olakunle Akinwande and Romario Cazaubon put in a tremendous sliding tackle to prevent Mealor from striding clean through on goal, but the half ended goalless.

It only took eight minutes from the restart for the visitors to take the lead through Rymer’s looping shot, lifted over Weinrabe from close range.

Three minutes later the visitors’ lead was doubled. A long ball over the top saw Rymer beat the offside trap, drift round a stranded Weinrabe and tap Risborough’s second goal into an empty net.

The Wingate goalkeeper did well to acrobatically prevent Dan Rawson scoring a third from long range but was rooted to the spot when Newton’s free kick from even further out floated just wide of his post.

Risborough’s goalkeeper, Jack Brooker, remained completely unchallenged until the 80th minute when he comfortably held Ronnie Webb’s shot from the edge of the box.

But at the other end there was nothing Weinrabe could do to prevent Newton heading in Risborough’s third goal from a corner just before injury time.

Claims for a late fourth goal were waved away after Rawson’s shot was adjudged to have cannoned down off the crossbar and bounced the fortunate side of the Weinrabe’s line.

Wingate will look to get back on winning terms away against mid-table Buckingham Athletic next Saturday.
