Grimsby Town host Doncaster Rovers in a top-of-the-table EFL North East Youth Alliance clash at Cheapside on Saturday (11am).

Neil Woods’ side occupy first-place, with 37 points – two points ahead of second-placed Doncaster Rovers, who have a game in hand on the young Mariners.

And Town can extend their lead at the top of the table to five points with a win this weekend – and Doncaster would have just four games left to play.

But it will be a tough test for the young Mariners, who are winless in their previous two league games – a 0-0 draw at home to Chesterfield last time out, and a 1-0 away defeat to Burton Albion two weeks ago.

And Town will be hoping to put that minor blip behind them this weekend and record their 11th league win of the season.

Doncaster are coming into the game in fine form, after picking up two straight victories in their previous league games – a 2-0 win over Bradford City and a 3-1 away victory over title-chasing Lincoln City.

The young Mariners were held to a 2-2 draw away at Doncaster earlier in the season, despite being 2-0 up with 20 minutes left to play.

Jock Curran and a Kyle Richardson penalty had given Town the lead, before the home side got back in it and eventually scored a 93rd-minute equaliser to ensure a point for both sides.

Elsewhere in the title race, third-placed Mansfield Town host ninth-placed Chesterfield this weekend, and fourth-placed Lincoln City host seventh-placed Burton Albion.

After this weekend’s game, the young Mariners are without a match for a week and are back in action away at Huddersfield Town on Saturday, April 13 (11am).
