Match report

Gill travelled to table toppers Wells City on the back of two draws and started the game compact and well organised across the pitch. It was Gill who took the lead when influential midfielder Tom Jarvis sent a deep cross for the on rushing Jordon Clapp to hit a sensational volley into the far corner sparking jubilant celebrations for the away side.

Gill continued to frustrate Wells allowing them plenty of possession at the back but the home side failed to break through or create any chances of note in the final third. 5 minutes before half time a Wells City corner was powerfully headed home to level the scores.

Only a few minutes later a long throw in from the Wells City centre back glanced off the striker and into the far corner of the net to give the home side the lead.

The second half continued with Wells dominating possession and Gill sitting deep to defend, after a number of niggly fouls and questionable free kicks Wells were surprisingly awarded a penalty when the centre forward went down in the box which was clinically slotted into the bottom corner. The goal scoring was complete when the experienced attacker Craig Herrod fired into the top corner to finish the game 4-1. Wells continue to sit top of the First Division and will likely be contenders throughout the season. Gill will be looking for their first win when they welcome Cheddar to Woodwater Lane.
