A frustrating start for the first team of the men's section. A torrent of injuries ruled out six players coming into the game however those that stepped up to the plate did very well indeed. A warm sunny day in Midleton played host to one of the games of the season in Division 2. The last encounter saw Galway lose 5-2 to Midleton in Midleton, so Galway were out to set matters straight. New signing for Galway, Luke Cardy got the first and second goal in quick succession. More chances followed from both sides but Midleton won a penalty stroke fifteen minutes before half time. Danny Gonzalez picking up a ten minute yellow for a tackle deemed dangerous. Artur Leonowicz managed to get a stick to the ball but not enough to keep it out. Game went in a half time, Galway tired, but 2-1 up. The second half started with both sides going end to end. The heat was getting the best of the Galway lads but they stood their ground and with 15 minutes to go converted a penalty corner. Barney Gaughan finished the vital chance and it made for a great welcome back present also. 7 minutes to go, Midleton commit an identical fowl in the circle, penalty corner awarded to Galway, no Yellow for Midleton? Luke "I love a party" Cardy, steps up to take it. Unfortunately the right post denied Luke his hat-trick. Midleton go on the counter and wave after wave it comes at the Galway defense. The legs of the Galway lads just not able to keep the pace of the Midleton sub's fresh legs, conceded two in the last quarter. Game finished disappointingly, 3-3. Galway will work hard on the fitness over the next few weeks for their next game! Great additions of Paul O'Dowd, Mark Murray-Kavanagh, Adrian Murtland, Danny Gonzalez, Albert Diaz and Barney Gaughan to the squad makes for promising hockey for the season!
