The first XV had its fair share of highs and lows this season, lack of consistency being perhaps the biggest criticism and ending with a mid-table finish.

A large number of second team players made themselves 1st team contenders, and there was a period of transition and settling in to a certain extent. Some great rugby was played, with four games in which over 50 points were scored – Faringdon, Berkshire Shire Hall, Aldermaston and Kingsclere. It was often the case where attitude and determination throughout a game from kick off to final whistle proved the difference between winning and losing – for example Warren Gilmore scoring against Abingdon to let Ross Leek win by one point with the final kick of the game. They also had some lows – the Harwell game at home - Farnham Royal in the final game of the season and Aylesbury Athletic in the cup and league. All other teams were beaten once out of the two encounters.

Key people this season have been the stand in captains / vice captains, namely Nick Deans, Jonny Reynolds and Olly Jaycocks. New players who have made a real impact and made themselves established first team players - Mark Wagstaff, Matt Lovett and Richard Deane, plus old faces who have made a real impact such as Alex Jaycocks.

There has been a very strong level of commitment this year and a sense of momentum which we intend to carry on into next season. If everyone continues to commit to training, challenge for places, up the fitness/diet/protein plans then this is certainly a league we feel we can achieve promotion from. My sincere thanks to Gareth Wherle for his commitment and hard work as captain and I hope he remains injury free to show the talent he has next season.
