Another win in the cup

Buxton continued their winning ways on Saturday beating a resolute Staffordshire outfit Cannock in the 3rd round of the RFU Junior Vase by 3 try's, 2 conversions to 1 try and 1 conversion.
Buxton started the brighter on a dull, damp day at Sunnyfields.
Cannock with possession got turned over with some awesome counter rucking giving Buxton the possession and going through 3 phases of play Buxtons forwards were recycling the ball ferousiosly and constantly knocking Cannock off the ball, Scott, Austin and Passey working tirelessly to secure good ball saw Austin in possession and on the rampage breaking 2 tackles and getting over the line for a try in the 1st 8 minutes, Lomas converting. 7 - 0

The play continued in Buxtons favour, slick passing from centres Torrance and Wagstaffe saw Holland break from half way sidestep 2 players and sprint to score under the posts, Lomas converting. 14 - 0 and half time.

A slow 2nd half start from Buxton let Cannock back into the game, Scott was sin binned after 5 minutes for a foul at the ruck.
Great tackling from Rosamond was keeping Cannock at bay, but couldn't prevent them from scoring their only try, converted after 50 minutes. 14 - 7

As the game wore on and with the visibility getting poor, Buxtons discipline and strong defence kept Cannock at bay, on 78 minutes a knock on in the Center by Cannock saw McGuigan fly hack the ball over the Cannock line and sprint to touch down, Lomas's steady left foot missing the conversion.
19 - 7 final score.

Overall a very satisfying performance by Buxton who are growing in confidence every week.

Buxton are back on league duty this Saturday, away to Keywoth.

DOR of rugby Karl de Groot said
" the boys put in another gritty performance this week against robust opposition. We had to dig into the squad this week due to picking up a few injuries in mid week county and university fixtures so the results really pleasing. " " due to this we only really played to our potential for around 20 minutes, and had to really dig in defensively to close out the game"

"The cup games I think demonstrate where we are as a group as we are being tested by teams from all over the Midlands but within our level and each time we have responded to the challenge, fairly comfortably really "

" we are now in the last 8 in the Midlands section and looking at the teams that are left must have every chance of progressing if we keep everyone fit "
