The Bulls come away with a win against the Amsterdam Cobras

A majority of the touring party departed London for Amsterdam on Thursday night to get the most out of the weekend away. On Friday the boys enjoyed walking around the city and embracing the Dutch culture and sampling some fine cheeses. To relax ahead of game day, Friday evening was spent cruising around the city's rivers and canals and seeing the city from the water.

The match was a good contest between the two sides in wet and slippery conditions. Both sides tried to play an expansive style of rugby and entertain the small crowd that had come out to watch the match, with Ash Sohier throwing some audacious passes. The Cobras, who had several Dutch internationals in the side, were strong down the middle and put on some big hits and strong carries keeping them in the game. The Bulls finished their sets very well and took advantage of the big in-goal areas with some excellent kicks from Josh Spuyman leading to a few scores. Devonne Olanrewaju added to the Bulls dominance by a near flawless display off the tee. More points were added with Zac Porter and Jamie Dimelow beating defenders for fun out wide. The game ended with two back-to-back try's from the Cobras after excellent vision from their halfback to execute overlaps in the corner. The game was played in great spirit, with the highlight of the match coming in the last 2 minutes when the Cobras prop caught the ball on 5th tackle and attempted a drop goal from 40m out on an angle. Unfortunately it just skimmed the corner flag but put a smile on the faces of all. The final score was 32-12 to the Bulls with Josh Spuyman picking up man of the match for a superb display at halfback on his first game back since an injury in August.

After the match, the Cobras took the boys to their sponsor's bar where everyone had a drink and some food together. We'd like to thank everyone at the Cobras for being so hospitable and agreeing to play us after their season ended nearly 2 months ago. We hope we can return the favour in the coming years and welcome the Cobras to South London for a rematch! Another mention should go to Ash Sohier as, without his work, this tour would have never happened and we are grateful for his organisation and teamwork skills.
