Club History

The Bracknell Queen Bees were founded in November 1987, when Bracknell Ice Rink opened.

1988-89
First season,finished 3rd in the Capital Division.
Great Britain Representatives: Julie Biles, Rachel Cotton and Claire Pannell.

1989-90
Finished 3rd in the Southern Division.

1990-91
Inaugural season of the Premier Division with the top two teams from each division from the 1989-90 season forming this group. Chelmsford Cobras, however, who finished 2nd in our division, declined to move up to the Premier Division and we were offered the opportunity instead which we readily accepted.

Finished 2nd to Oxford City Rockets.
Claire Pannell finished 5th in the leading Scorers table and Karen Hare finished as 2nd leading netminder.

With this new higher division formulated the playoffs set-up was changed to the format we know today. The final saw Oxford City Rockets beating us 5-1, and therefore becoming both League and Playoff Champions.

1991-92
Finished 2nd to Oxford City Rockets.
Play-offs: faced Oxford in the final. Drew the game 1-1, after both regulation time and sudden death overtime. 2 rounds of penalty shots gave the final result to Oxford 3-1. They were again both League and Playoff Champions.

1992-93
Yet again a carbon copy of the previous two!
Finished 2nd with Oxford the Champions for the third year running.
Playoffs: Oxford beat us 4-0 in the final.

Oxford were the first team to win both the League and Playoffs in 3 consecutive seasons.

1993-94
The loss of Oxford saw the league drop to just seven teams.
Finished 1st.
Play-offs: beat Slough 7-2.

1994-95
Premier Division returned to 8 teams.
Finished 3rd, Sunderland Scorpions won the league title for the first time, and the Playoffs.
Karen Hare was top goalie in the league.

1995-96
Finished 2nd to Sunderland Scorpions
No information on the Playoffs for this season, and therefore do not know if Sunderland managed the double again, if any one does have this information, please post it on the guest book.

1996-97
Finish 2nd again to Sunderland Scorpions.
Play-offs: Finish 2nd again to Sunderland Scorpions. (Could this be Sunderland’s 3rd double thus equaling Oxford’s record?)

1997-98
Finished 2nd to Sunderland Scorpions (again).
Play-offs: Finished 2nd to Sunderland Scorpions (again!).
Great Britain Representatives: Verity Boome, Vicky Burton, Laura Byrne, Rachelle Kyffin and Kim Strongman.

1998-99
Finished 3rd behind Slough Phantoms and Sunderland Scorpions (respectively).
Play-offs: finished 4th losing to Slough and then Guildford in the Bronze medal game.

1999-2000
This season unfortunately, began with us losing three of our international players for most of the season. Kim Strongman emigrated to Canada, Claire Pannell fell pregnant and Laura Byrne was in Canada, playing hockey until the early part of 2000.
Finished 5th.

2000-01
Our 13th season, the team grew immensely with new senior players and an influx of younger ones, with ages in the team now ranging from 6 years to 30 years.
Premier League: 2nd.
Play-offs: 3rd beating Sunderland Scorpions 3-1 in the bronze medal game.
Great Britain Representatives: Vicky Burton, Laura Byrne, Heather Brunning and Amy Johnson.

2001-02
Premier League: 4th.
Play-offs: 3rd beating Cardiff Comets.
Swindon Tournament: 2nd losing to Cardiff on penalty shots in the final.
