The Guv'nor - Jai's Column

November 2014

Well a lot of water under the bridge and a lot to catch up on, we should be well into the new season now but more news of that to follow too. My long working summer hours have not allowed me the time to put finger to key, lack of doing so has also led to complacency in writing my bit for the cause too; so you should be well into the land of nod before you finish reading this lot. Where to start has to be the first thing and of course, bring us up to the present date has to be the last, simples!

Going back to the A.G.M where all the old faces were duly elected back onto the committee, along with some fresh blood too which was very nice to see for a change. No names or clues here, in order to protect the innocent for a wee while at least. It was also duly noted that in order to run a proposed and much hoped for second team, we would need to recruit a number of willing helpers along the way too. More news on these mystery people later?
The proposed building of the new walls to the changing rooms got off to a flying start, and promptly folded like a pack of cards, just a quickly. Again many promises mostly unfilled of course, as the seasonal weather changed for the better and working folk saw longer, busier days. Some progress has been made however, mainly to secure buildings and keep the scrotes out (for now). All this issue with Eastern Europeans flooding into the country and taking our jobs, and we can't even find one decent brickie amongst the millions that have flooded in! Anyone in the know of a decent Polish builder who needs work around March or April next year, please let us know soonest. Anyone with a decent Chech, fill it in for a large amount and make it payable to Boothtown Terriers!
Well our masters at the Pennine League found themselves in a bit of a pickle, as their new league structure blew a gasket a few games into the new season. The original structure saw us "promoted" into the Championship, along with the winners and runners up of our division last year. As teams started to pull the plug and fall away as the season got underway, one of our higher divisions was left with just six teams in it. This called for an immediate solution before things got too far out of hand, so with a bit of shuffling the divisions have been restructured and teams moved around a bit. The main outcome of all this is that we have been moved back to playing a lot of teams that we played last couple of seasons, and of course some teams moving a little higher than they expected or wanted. Another thing is that we had played five games and lost them all, pushed up too high in the first place, perhaps? This now means that we have played no games, and we are around two months behind in our fixtures; must be doing a Lindley Swifts here, don't even try to work that one out if you are not that in to rugby in these parts. To be honest I think it is one of the best things the Pennine League has done for us in a long time, it remains to be seen if the first team can take full advantage of this. If you haven't worked it out yet we have managed to get a second team going, and they have not been affected by the changes. More news of their adventures at a later date, but at this stage going well and developing quite nicely, thank you.
Last but not least, our new web pages should be with us soon. This will bring us right up to present technology, instead of what was first developed a good number of years ago. Hopefully there will be a lot more detail to the site, it will be easier to follow and look a lot better too. No, sadly it does not mean that I will do one and my bit will not appear, sorry but no-one is that lucky...yet.
Chow for now!
