A good display and much needed win for Walshaw Sports.
A couple of new faces in the Walshaw side, Nick Alexander and Steve Ledjon, had promising debuts.Oliver Hatfield-Banton also returned to the fold and slotted in well at the centre of defence.
Walshaws first real chance came from a corner, intelligently flicked on at the near post by Lee Gaskell and bundled wide by the Gregs defence. Nothing came of the resultant corner.
Walshaw continued on the front foot, Sean Sherwood turned well in the box and his left foot shot cannoned into the post with the keeper well beaten, the ball was scrambled away.
Steve Ledjon in midfield, was showing some nice touches and looks to be a good addition to the side.
Bruno Silva in the Walshaw goal did very well to save a swerving effort from the visitors in one of their rare forays.
Nick Alexander moved forward and played a lovely pass to Lee Gaskell, who turned and shot just inside the post. A deserved 1-0 scoreline.
Unfortunately, 2 minutes later Bruno Silva rushed out from his goal and was caught stranded, the Gregs forward chipping into an empty net.
Walshaw were straight back on the offensive, Steve Ledjon tried his luck from distance, just wide, then Nick Alexander had one shot cleared off the line and when the ball was crossed back to him his left foot volley sailed just over the bar.
Level at halftime but on top were Walshaw.
There was a scrappy start to the second half which was greatly improved when Richard Woodward received a telling pass from Jamie Hart, he neatly sidestepped the centre half and placed his shot wide of the keeper in the corner of the net.
Stung by this the Gregs put together a good move which resulted in Bruno Silva being left one on one with their centre forward, he made a great save and almost immediately was called on the make an identical save from the same player.
A left wing corner from Walshaw was headed in at the far post by Richard Woodward, an excellent goal.
The game now became a lively, feisty affair and the referee was called upon to caution players on both sides.
Walshaw seemed content to see the game out, Gregs were becoming increasingly desperate in their attempts to get something from the game.
The Walshaw defence stood firm and Bruno Silva was commanding his area.
Then to keep the long suffering fans on their toes, Walshaw contrived to give away a penalty, converted, to make the last few minutes more stressful than was needed.
In the end an excellent win, with Richard Woodward just shading the man of the match.
